ORIGIN OF BOROUGH: Heidelberg, named for the City in Germany, at one time was part of
Collier Township. In the 19th century, Collier had a booming coal industry, and the Borough of Heidelberg grew around the
main entrance to the township's coal mine. The town kept growing, and in 1903 decided it could survive independently and seceded
from Collier.
